    1. To position (troops) in readiness for combat, as along a front or line.
    2. To bring (forces or material) into action.
    3. To base (a weapons system) in the field.
  1. To distribute (persons or forces) systematically or strategically.
  2. To put into use or action: "Samuel Beckett's friends suspected that he was a genius, yet no one knew . . . how his abilities would be deployed" (Richard Ellmann).

Installing, setting up, testing and running. This military term, which means the placement of troops and equipment in the field, is widely used with computers as an alternate to the word "implementation." For example, "XYZ software deployment" is the same as saying "XYZ software implementation." To "deploy" something is to "get it installed and running."
