(Sanskrit). In tantric Buddhism a deity, usually a Buddha or a Bodhisattva, who is a transformation or emanation of the qualities and facets of the Truth Body (dharma-kāya). The devatā may become manifest in various forms, as a sound (mantra), a gesture (mudrā), or a physical representation.
