Dieter Goltzsche

(b Dresden, 28 Dec 1934). German painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He studied from 1952 to 1957 at the Hochschule f?r Bildende K?nste in Dresden under Hans Theo Richter and Max Schwimmer (d 1960), and he then spent a year as a graduate student under Schwimmer at the Deutsche Akademie der K?nste in Berlin. In 1960 he settled in East Berlin, where he played a significant role in the formation of the 'Berliner Schule', a term applied primarily to modernist painters concerned with formalist principles of pictorial construction.
