Dirty Linen

Album Review: Dirty Linen

Review

If you missed her first indie release in 1987, here's a second chance to pick up the disc that The Village Voice's Robert Christgau called Chapman's "best record by a mile and a half." As a songwriter, Chapman excels at skewering the battle between the sexes. "Bad Debt" is the rockin' saga of a no-good lover; "Roller Coaster Man," co-written with Joe South, is a slinky tale of desire. "For the Love of a Man," the disc's closer, sure does talk about love like it is -- sometimes hurtful, always needed, often wonderful. Great songs that bite as well as groove make this a standout. ~ Christine Ohlman, Roundup Newsletter., All Music Guide
