One of the primary uses of the Simpson's Diversity Index is to quantify the biodiversity of a particular habitat. It measures diversity.
Both hands, in the "D" position, palms out and index fingers touching are drawn apart. As they move apart, the index fingers wiggle up and down.
Communities with many different species has a high I.D index of diversity. This will enable the communities to withstands environmental changes.
The factors that affect biodiversity of an ecosystem are moisture content, organic matter, Simpson's index of diversity and the pH of the soil.
Positives:
~Better health care
~High on the Human Development Index
~Diversity
Negatives:
~Pollution (due to factories etc.)
Hope that helps!
