Biography
This Brazilian band was formed by Roberto Campos and Barão in the beginning of the '90s. The band's name had Greek origin and refers to something unquestionable and fundamental for religious faith.Before releasing their first disc, Album, the band played several gigs in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), including as a special guest to Marcus Viana on five-string electric violin. But it was in a music festival in Rio de Janeiro in October 1992 that Dogma become known to the prog rock world audience. Their first work, Album, was released in 1993 and the friendship with Viana resulted in a special appearance on the CD.
This recognition was proved by two events in 1993: when the band opened for Rick Wakeman at some gigs in Brazil with his son, Adam Wakeman, and when Album reached Japan and Europe, surprising prog rock fans not only of the music, but also because of the CD art work by Newton Marques. Specialized magazines voted this CD as one of the best releases of that year.
Their second release, Twin Sunrise, was released in 1995 and was also followed by some gigs in the band's hometown. Japanese music critics voted the band as one of the exponents in the Brazilian prog scene.
In 1996 during a rehearsal, bass player Barão died of a heart attack. The band tried to play with new musicians but it was not the same. Because of this, Dogma split in 1997. Fernando Campos continues playing and occasionally makes special appearances on some Sagrado Coração da Terra songs playing electric and acoustic guitar. ~ Cesar Lanzarini, All Music Guide
