Yep. It was the prequel to the other movies. Kind of disappointing though, as good as the Exorcist was

Paul Shrader created the film now known as "Dominion : Prequel to the Exorcist".

When the backers saw the film they didn't like it as it was more a psychological film rather than the 'blood and guts' they were expecting.

So the script was revamped and Renny Harlin was brought in to shoot extra scenes where necessary. His version of the film is what is now known as "Exorcist : The Beginning"

When Harlins version was released it got bad reviews so they released Shraders original version as well (to try to recoup some of the losses perhaps??)
