(b Horní Jiřetín, 19 April 1798; d Copenhagen, 29 Aug 1861). Bohemian composer. He studied at the Prague Conservatory, then went to Vienna (1817-30), where he supplied popular theatres with scores for farces and pantomimes. He wrote his best-known works including the popular Des Adlers Horst (1832), in Berlin, and later was court conductor in Copenhagen.
