Pictorial representation of the Last Judgement in the Middle Ages. In a church it often took the form of a mural painting over the chancel-arch, with Christ in the middle, Hell and the damned on His left (the south or right when seen from the nave), and the Blessed on the left (north). It was also a subject for stained-glass windows: a spectacular glass Doom survives in St Mary's Church, Fairford, Glos. (late C15 and early C16).
