That there is a delay is what happens when Dorothy tries to see the Wizard in "The Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, the Wizard makes Dorothy, her pet dog Toto and their three friends wait a day the first time and at least four days the second. This is what happens in the original 1900 book edition by author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856 - May 6, 1919). But in the beloved 1939 movie classic, there is no delay other than the time long enough to announce Dorothy's arrival.
