Biography

Born in Napa, ID, Adam Drucker, or Doseone, one of the founders of the group Themselves (Jel was the other) and a main player in Subtle and cLOUDDEAD, spent much of his youth in Philadelphia and New Jersey perfecting his battle raps. However, after he moved to Cincinnati to attend college, he began focusing more on his poetry and how it could be applied to music. He self-released his first album, 1998's Hemispheres, and the same year began recording as part of Deep Puddle Dynamics (along with Jel, Slug from Atmosphere, and Sole and Alias from Live Poets) for their debut album, The Taste of Rain...Why Kneel? In 2000 Themselves released their first album, Them, under the Anticon label that Dose had helped form, and in 2002 the duo issued The No Music and later added a third member, Dax Pierson, on keyboards, theremin, Dr. Sample, and background vocals. Besides working and touring with Themselves, Dose has also been involved in projects with Prefuse 73, Aesop Rock, Buck 65, and others. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide

Doseone is the stage name of Adam Drucker (born April 21, 1977), an emcee, artist, and poet from Cincinnati, Ohio. Dose is known for his nasal, high pitched, fast polyrhythmic rapping style and abstract lyrics. He often simultaneously performs synth, sampler, or keyboard on stage. His words tend to express upon topics of childhood, nature, and American life. Early in his musical career, Dose was in a freestyle rap battle with a then unknown Eminem at Scribble Jam 1997.[1]

He is a founding member of the Anticon hip hop collective, recording with cLOUDDEAD, Boom Bip, Themselves, Greenthink, Deep Puddle Dynamics, Subtle, as well as cameo appearances with many other artists, such as Aesop Rock, Sole, and Mike Patton's Peeping Tom. His latest projects have been Subtle's ExitingARM, the solo album Skeleton Repellent, and the spoken word album Soft Skulls.

A recurring character in much of Doseone's work is Hour Hero Yes. He is mentioned in the 13 & God song "Ghostwork" and throughout the three Subtle albums. Album and video artwork, as well as art on Subtle's official website, suggest Hour Hero Yes to be a bald man with a black and white striped face—an image which is embodied by a bust that serves as a centerpiece prop during live Subtle shows. On the cover of 'For Hero; For Fool' he appears in old military garb, with fire for hair. In 2004 he published his first combination poetry book/CD, The Pelt.

Recently, Dose has begun posting an online animated cartoon entitled 'NOTGarfield'. The series is comprised of characters from Garfield involved in surreal dada situations. As well as the art for most albums in which he is involved, Dose also is responsible for all artwork on Jel's album Soft Money.
