The party on which an order for the payment of money is drawn.

One whom a Bill of Exchange or a check directs to pay to another a specified sum of money. In the typical checking account situation, the bank is the drawee, the person writing the check is the Maker or Drawer, and the person to whom the check is written is the Payee. See also Bill; Draft.
