An individual who has stopped participating in an exercise programme. Lack of time, loss of interest, and, especially, failure to achieve goals seem to be critical factors. The vast majority of exercisers who do not achieve their pre-set goals drop out, while most exercisers who attain their goals continue exercising. This emphasizes the need to set personal goals which are reasonably easy to achieve before embarking on an exercise programme. See also exercise adherence.

A patient which becomes inaccessible or ineligible to follow-up procedures.
