Easingwold is a small market town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 4,233.[1] It is located 13 miles (21 km) north of York, at the foot of the Howardian Hills. The name of Easingwold is Anglo Saxon in origin. King John had a hunting lodge there and the Royal Forest of Galtres (no longer a forest) surrounded the area.
Cllr W Brian Taylor is currently chairman of the council and Mayor of Easingwold. The town was bypassed by the A19 in November 1994. Easingwold school is the largest in the surrounding area and has around 1,300 pupils. Easingwold also has a primary school.
Easingwold is served by several buses to nearby villages, towns and the City of York.
The Cabinet Office have their Emergency Planning College at The Hawkhills, Easingwold.[2][3]
Education
Easingwold has its own secondary school, Easingwold School, which is now a specialist Language College and a pupil roll of around 1,300 pupils.
Easingwold Community Primary School is a local authority school with a school roll of around 300 pupils.
