the South Lawn of the White House for the Easter Egg Roll on Easter
Monday of 1878. Prior to that date, the custom which dates back to
the mid 1870s took place on the Capitol lawn.

Andrew Johnson had nothing to do with an Easter Egg Roll at the
White House. That event was brought to the White House by
Rutherford B. Hayes when it was no longer possible to do it on the
Capitol lawn.
