Disadvantages:

The result drawn from ecological study can not be applicable to individual which is called ecological fallacy.

The Netherlands Fallacy is a belief that the netherland's environmental impact (and likewise other rich nations) is decreasing and only contained to it's borders. This is not true since it outsources many industries and imports products that make it's ecological footprint ever increasing.
