electrotype

1. A metal plate used in letterpress printing, made by electroplating a lead or plastic mold of the page to be printed.

Duplicate printing plate made through electrolysis from a wax or metal mold of the original printing plate. Electrotypes serve as duplications of the original advertisement and are sent to the various magazines on the print advertising schedule, who will use them to print the advertisement in their publications.
