[ish-trer-mah-DOO-rah] A vinho regional located in western Portugal near Lisbon. Included in its boundaries are eight doc areas-alenquer, Arruda, Bucelas, carcavelos, colares, lourinhã, Obidos, and Torres Vedras. It also has two iprs-Alcobaça and Encostas d'Aire. The Estremadura region is Portugal's largest volume producer and is generally thought of as a source of cheap, mediocre, easy-drinking wine. Quality is starting to improve in the region, especially for the wines coming out of the DOC designated areas.

Estremadura (Portuguese pronunciation: [(ɨ)ʃtɾɨmɐˈðuɾɐ]) is a historical province of Portugal. It is located along the Atlantic Ocean coast in the center of the country and includes Lisbon, the capital.
Estremadura is different to Extremadura, an autonomous community of Spain.
The name of both regions comes from the fact that they were at the "extreme" border of Christendom during a phase of the Reconquest. The meaning is therefore similar to the marches.
Estremadura was the seat of one of the early civilizations of Iberian Chalcolithic. See Vila Nova de São Pedro.
