1. Used as a verb to indicate the completion of the term of a subscription: for example, after service of the last issue on a periodical subscription, the subscription expires.

2. Used as a noun to refer to a subscriber record or group of records that have expired. Expires are usually maintained on the subscription file for six months after expire, enabling the seller to reactivate the subscription if it is renewed after expire. Lists of expires are also kept on an expire file for several years after expire to be used as a promotion and list rental file. After a few years, it is assumed that the addresses are no longer valid, and the lists are disposed of.

End, terminate.
Example: A 10-year lease that begins on July 1, 2005, is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2015, unless it is terminated earlier or extended.
