Fallujah, an Iraqi city located 30 miles west of Baghdad, is known for its anti-American sentiment, especially after some 15 seemingly unarmed Iraqis were killed by American gunfire in the aftermath of the War in Iraq. Since then, a number of American soldiers and Iraqis have been killed in attacks.
Before the Gulf War, Fallujah was one of Iraq's principal production sites of chemical warfare materials. In the past two years, Iraq had upgraded the facility, expanding its capabilities into being diverted quickly to chemical warfare production.
