- Claim to Fame: Home playing field for the Boston Red Sox
Located in Boston's Fenway section, Fenway Park is named for the large number of fens, or marshes, in that area. Besides being the Red Sox' home field, the 35,000-seat stadium also hosted the AFL's Boston Patriots (later the New England Patriots) from 1963-68 and the Boston Redskins (later the Washington Redskins) before that. The Boston Yanks and the Boston College and Boston University football teams also played there. Fenway once hosted a World Series that did not include the Red Sox. The Boston Braves won the 1914 Series at Fenway because Braves Field was still under construction.
The Red Sox won the World Series at Fenway Park in 1912, and won three more times by 1918. During the next offseason they sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees, and did not win a World Series again until 2004 (see "The Curse of the Bambino."
