ferrishyn (pl.)
The Manx word for fairy, rough equivalent of yn sleigh beggey [the little people]. They are described as standing from one to three feet high and are less aristocratic than the fairies of Ireland and Wales, having no monarch. As trooping fairies, they like to hunt with their own red-eared white dogs. They are omniscient and also capable of stealing babies; thus the country people speak of them only in the most favourable terms.
