Marketing Dictionary: flashback

Theatrical technique used in dramatic presentations where the chronological sequence of events is interrupted by a scene recalling an event or occurrence from an earlier time; also called cutback. Flashback technique is often used effectively in television commercial production, as, for example, in a commercial for a dishwashing detergent where a housewife flashes back to a time when she used another detergent and was embarrassed because her dishes were not clean and did not shine.
