Fort Wagner

A fort on the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina, that was the subject of a fifty-seven-day siege in the summer of 1863 by Union forces, after repeated lesser attacks had failed. The fort was finally won, but only after Confederate troops had secretly abandoned it. It is remembered for the bravery of the black regiments who fought for the Union there.
