Biography

Like most of the Stallone family, Frank Stallone made his film debut in brother Sylvester Stallone's Rocky (1976). Considerably more talented than many celebrity siblings, Frank was an accomplished singer and musician. Many of his compositions made their way into such subsequent Sly Stallone efforts as Rocky II, Paradise Alley and Staying Alive. Stallone has since found steady work as a supporting actor in films like Hudson Hawk (1992) and Tombstone (1993). By accident or design, Stallone has co-starred with actress Brenda Vaccaro three times, most recently in 1989's Masque of the Red Death. One of Frank Stallone's better recent roles was Alvin Karpis in 1995's Public Enemy #1. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Biography

Stallone was born in New York City, New York, the son of Jacqueline "Jackie" Stallone.(née Labofish), an astrologer, former dancer, and promoter of women's wrestling, and Frank Stallone, Sr., a hairdresser.[1] Stallone Sr.'s father was an immigrant from Gioia del Colle (province of Bari, Apulia, Italy).[2]

In his teen years he went to Lincoln High School in Northeast Philadelphia, PA. Stallone has worked as a singer in the tradition of American big band jazz and popular music, in a vocal style reminiscent of his idol Frank Sinatra. He tours with his own orchestra under conductor Paul Vesco, and has also worked with conductors Sammy Nestico and Billy May. Stallone has released a number of albums, including Day In Day Out with Sammy Nestico (1991; A1 Records: FSTCD1) and "Close Your Eyes" with Billy May (1996; Coolnote).

Stallone wrote and performed "Far From Over" for the 1983 film Staying Alive.[3] The song peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his only major pop hit. The song was nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Original Song from a Motion Picture and a Grammy Award for Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special.

A self-titled album soon followed from RSO, in the style of 1980s pop. In May 1984, Stallone peaked at #81 with the song "Darlin'."

Stallone was also used as a punchline by Norm Macdonald on Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update, often inserting Stallone's name into the end of news stories in a ridiculing manner. One example would be rhetorically asking the audience who was responsible for some sort of adverse event or circumstance, "...you guessed it: Frank Stallone." Another example, "The most popular toy of 1996: 'Tickle Me Elmo'. And the least popular toy of 1996, you guessed it: 'Tickle Me Frank Stallone'."
