Gabriel Foigny

Foigny, Gabriel (c.1630-1692). French writer. His La Terre australe connue (1676), always paired as a Utopia with that of Veiras, tells of a virtuous, anarchic, and hermaphrodite society which is perfect as regards social organization and technological advance, but not entirely happy. The book is important for its deism, or natural religion.
