The second Dalai Lama was Gendun Gyatso Palzangpo (1476-1541). He was born in Central Tibet near Shigatse.

The Dalai Lama was born in Taktser, Qinghai and was selected as the rebirth of the 13th Dalai Lama two years later, although he was only formally recognized as the 14th Dalai Lama on 17 November 1950, at the age of 15.

The 14th Dalai Lama is the current Dalai Lama. He was born in 1935 and he is still alive.

The 14th Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso.
