1866Campaigns of the Non-Combatant. The Delaware journalist and one of the first syndicated correspondents collects his Civil War dispatches. They concentrate on the lot of the common soldier and the civilians caught in the path of the war.
1880Tales of the Chesapeake. Townsend, one of the first syndicated correspondents, publishes his best-known book, a collection of local-color sketches.
1884The Entailed Hat. Townsend's novel describes the kidnapping and selling of free blacks in Delaware and Maryland before the Civil War.
