In the shadow of Washington, DC, and its monuments to another famous George, George Mason University teaches public policy and maybe a little politics to some 30,000 students annually. The school offers roughly 200 degree programs in areas such as law, humanities, science, information technology and engineering, health and human services, visual and performing arts, and education. It has a student-teacher ratio of about 15:1. The university has Virginia campuses in Fairfax, Arlington, Manassas, and Sterling (Mason in Loudoun, which offers continuing education courses). George Mason University is named after founding father George Mason, who drafted an early version of the US Constitution's Bill of Rights.
