Gerald Abraham

Music Encyclopedia: Gerald (Ernest Heal) Abraham

(b Newport, Isle of Wight, 9 March 1904; d Midhurst, 18 March 1988). English musicologist. He worked first as a writer, then for the BBC, and as professor at Liverpool University. Much of his finest work was on Russian and east European music and Romantic music generally; but his range was wide and his writings are informed by a broad cultural sympathy and perceptive critical judgment.
