Get Over It is a 2001 romantic comedy film directed by Tommy O'Haver. The film mixes concepts from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and stereotypical American teen comedies of the time.

Plot

Berke Landers (Ben Foster) and his childhood sweetheart Alison (Melissa Sagemiller) were the quintessential high-school couple. Until she dumps him. His world crumbling around him, Berke tries to figure out a way to win Alison back with the help of his friends Felix (Colin Hanks) and Dennis (Sisqo), hindered by the entrance of her new man, 'foreign' student and ex-boy band member Striker (Shane West).

With the help of Felix's sister Kelly (Kirsten Dunst), a talented songwriter and singer, Berke wins a minor role in his school's upcoming musical 'A Midsummer Night's Rockin' Eve', (a musical version of William Shakespeares' 'A Midsummer Night's Dream') directed by the oddball and demanding Dr Desmond Forrest Oates (Martin Short), in which Alison and Striker play two of the romantic lead roles, Hermia and Demetrius.

A freak accident grounds Peter Wong, cast in the musical as Lysander, and Berke is nominated by Striker to take over the role of Lysander. Berke agrees to take over the role in an effort to win Allison. Despite his lack of any singing or dancing skill, with the help of Kelly (who plays Helena), he gradually improves, yet seems unaware of the growing attraction between the two of them.

At a party at Berke's house, Kelly kisses Berke, who then tells her he cannot see the relationship working because she is Felix's little sister. She leaves him, annoyed at his unwillingness to move on with his life, and Felix, coming across the two, punches Berke. At the same party, Berke and Alison catch Striker cheating on Alison with Alison's best friend, Maggie (Zoë Saldaña), and so Alison breaks up with Striker.

During the interval of the first night of the 'extravaganza', Alison confides to Berke that she wants to get back together with him again, so that he faces a difficult choice between the two girls. Striker, meanwhile, bribes two of the theatre technicians to try and blow up Berke using stage pyrotechnics. As the fourth Act begins, Berke, facing his turmoil, alters the original script in order to reject Alison and profess his love for Kelly. Striker, outraged at this, begins to protest, but unwittingly sets off the explosion he set out to injure Berke, blowing himself offstage. Kelly and Berke leave the theatre after the show, looking forward to their future together (and the rest of the week's shows).
