(b La Valetta, 16 Nov 1715; d Naples, Oct 1760). Maltese composer. He was a pupil of Durante in Naples and became maestro of the S Onofrio conservatory there; Paisiello was among his pupils. He was a respected composer of operas, mainly serious; several were staged in London. His church music, like Durante's, combines homophonic writing with the polyphonic tradition.
