NOTE : The term "Goth" as a style or lifestyle is a separate related question.

The adjective "gothic" primarily refers to medieval forms of architecture (also known as "Pointed") found in, but not exclusive to, northern Europe -- from the name Goths applied to the Germanic or Teutonic tribes who inhabited the region.

Gothic can apply to styles of art or literature that embody the dark, desolate, or mysterious themes associated with the European medieval period.

It also applies to specific sans serif typefaces.

Most "goths" will wear all black and fingerless gloves, for example. Goth is much more like emo, in a way.

The BrontΓ« sisters - Charlotte, Emily, and Anne - are often credited with bridging the gap between romanticism and realism in literature. Their novels, such as "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights," combine elements of both literary movements by exploring themes of passion and emotion within a realistic setting. These works are known for their complex characters and vivid portrayal of human experiences, making them influential in the transition between the two literary periods.
