Serbia was a part of greater federations with other republics called Yugoslavia. It is called Serbia since the middle ages.

At the end of December 1992, Milosevic started to try and form his "Greater Serbia" as part of the Yugoslav wars, which would rage until 1995.

Greater Serbia is the idea that all people who identify as Bosniaks, Macedonians, Montenegrins and most Albanians and Croatians are actually ETHNIC SERBS whose ancestors were assimilated into new (Bosniaks, Macedonians, Montenegrins) or existing (Croats & Albanians) ethnic formations only after the fall of the Serb kingdoms based in Raska and Bosnia in the late middle ages. Greater Serbia is the imaginary border in the Balkans that Serbs claimed as their own land. It consists of the whole Serbia, including Kosovo, Republika Srpska (Serbian Republic) in Bosnia, and Vojna Krajina (Military Area) in Croatia. This is the place where Serbs have settled and lived for the past 1300 years.
