First, buy a book on design. There are a bunch of them. Put the
book in the bathroom. Take the rest of the books OUT of the
bathroom.
Once you have memorized the book, fly to Berlin for two weeks
and do nothing but look at any printed thing you can possibly find.
When there were still dinosaurs, people made conceptual sketches of
graphic products with this nonsense text called "greeking" so
people would look at the beauty of the framework of the document
instead of trying to read the copy. Since you probably can't read
German, it's just as good as greeking.
Then go home and buy a copy of the National Enquirer. This will
show you what not to do.
Next, buy a computer and subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud.
You'll also need a scanner and a laser printer. Learn these
programs by heart.
Then get a business license.
Next, find a church or some other charity that needs some
graphic services and would take a chance on an untested designer.
Design some things for free, and keep samples for yourself.
And finally, start looking for paying customers.
