  (groin) pronunciation
n.
  1. Anatomy. The crease or hollow at the junction of the inner part of each thigh with the trunk, together with the adjacent region and often including the external genitals.
  2. Architecture. The curved edge at the junction of two intersecting vaults.
  3. A small jetty extending from a shore to protect a beach against erosion or to trap shifting sands.
tr.v., groined, groin·ing, groins.

To provide or build with groins.

[Alteration (influenced by LOIN) of Middle English grinde, perhaps from Old English grynde, abyss, hollow.]

The region of the body including the upper part of the thigh and the lower part of the abdomen. Groin muscles include the adductors which pull the thighs together. These muscles rotate the hip during running and are essential for maintaining a grip on the saddle when horse-riding.

Overextension of the adductor muscles results in groin strain. It can be caused by forceful kicking movements in football, bringing the free leg forward in skating, or intensive sprint training. Groin strain can be avoided by strengthening the adductor muscles and by improving their flexibility. A good exercise for doing this is holding and then compressing a football between the knees.

Groin pain (either osteitis pubis or inguinocrural pain) results from a loosening of the ligaments holding the pubic bones together. It often occurs in football players and others who overload one leg more than the other (by repeated kicking, for example).

Wikipedia: groin

The groin is the crease at the junction of the torso with the legs and the adjacent region that includes the external genitals. The term may be used as a euphemism for genitals, since the names of the latter are taboo words in some cultures. When someone has "pulled his/her groin muscles", usually, this person has pulled a muscle in the inner thigh.
