The true natives of Tenerife were the Guanches, a tall, fair-haired race, whose presence on the island can be dated back to at least 200BC. They had their own constitution and monarch (called a mencey) and lived a reasonably peaceful existence until the Spanish conquest at the start of the 15th century. Thereafter, the island became a territory of Spain and its "natives" would be considered Spanish. There was some interbreeding and the result is that, today, you can see some Tenerife natives with fair hair - a legacy from this early race, the Guanches.

Alonso de Espinosa was a Spanish priest and chronicler who wrote the book "Historia de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria" in the 16th century. He is best known for his accounts of the history and culture of the native people of the Canary Islands.

The canarians are mainly caucasinas. They are descendants of Normans, Portuguese, Castilians and other europeans that had migrated to the Island in the last five centuries. The original population of the islands (the guanches) was almost exterminated or sold as slaves, and the few that stayed in the islands were mixed with the European settlers. Furthemore, some reports of the time of the conquest sais that they were blonds with blue eyes.

However in Ceuta and Melilla there are several human types. A majority of people descendant of iberians that is caucasian and mainly christian, and a important minority (that will be majority in some years with the current demographic projections) of north African spanish that is mainly Muslim. There is too a little colony with Indian roots and Hindu religion.
