Game Character:

Hawk Manson

Character Bio

If you caught eye of Hawk Manson on the street these days, you'd probably confuse him for a street punk. But such is not the case. Hawk was once a freedom fighter against everything -- drugs, guns, crime ... even illiteracy. But, as the saying goes, "nice guys finish last" and Hawk's selfless acts soon saw this rumored former cop out on the street without money, a job or credibility. All he had was his "nice guy" status. And that won't get you squat.

Forced to survive on the very streets he strove so hard to clean up, Hawk became a broken man, turning to crime to meet his needs. His only inspiration would come from seeing Mace Daniels in action, her power and control (not to mention killer bod) astounding him. The two became close, each too thickheaded to admit their "more-than-friends" feelings for one another (though Hawk would be much more inclined).

Sitting around one night, waiting to hear back about several of the "jobs" he performed, Hawk was approached by Mace, who pinned him to the ground, flashed her sexy smile, and informed him about Dr. Zeng's plans. In quick agreement to help her, he informed Mace of someone else who could contribute, Ben Daniels.

Now Hawk finds himself once again in the position to help mankind. Sure, it's nice to be back where he was so long ago ... but his real drive is to get closer to Mace.

THE STORY:

With the dreaded Y2K bug and the increase in strange and violent crimes by everyone from toddlers to the elderly, the late 90s was an odd time for humanity. Needless to say, believers that the "end is near" were not hard to find. Among this sect's most elite was Dr. Dex Zeng, a radical scientist, professor in theology, high-ranking government official and true genius. An unlikely believer in such year 2000 hysteria, Dr. Zeng played an active role in large militant factions and giant underground gangs, using his superior intellect to bring hundreds of others into his belief and under his control.

As the years passed, Dr. Zeng took on a gross megalomaniacal personality which many believed was caused by the synthetic drugs he developed for the government. Mixed with his newfound personal glory and the impending demise of mankind, he began to act as though he were a god! Forcing everyone to bow at his feet, he would make absurd proclamations, leading quickly to his termination from his top-ranking government position. Enraged by his employers' decision, Dr. Zeng used his money to create his own high-rise skyscraper. Residing atop this edifice, he would peer out over the city and world that he knew would soon be doomed.

As thousands celebrated New Year's Eve, Dr. Zeng cowered in his penthouse office, too afraid to peer out the window or even to turn on the TV. He could still hear them chanting 300 feet below: "Ten! ... Nine! ... Eight! ... Seven! ..." Each second felt like an eternity as he grabbed at his ears, trying to block out the inevitable words that came at the end: "Five! ... Four! ... Three! ... Two! ... ONE!" He forced his eyes tighter still and grabbed his legs as he curled up on the floor. He could actually hear the collective 'H' roll off the tongues of the people below: "Happy New Year!" He screamed and awaited the inevitable flash of bright light and the devastating fires he had prophesied only a few days before ... but nothing happened.

He waited nearly three hours to move. Finally, he wiped the sweat from his brow and climbed to his feet, turning to look out the window. Far below, the streets were clearing as everyone left the celebration, heading home to sleep off their hangovers. The stars collided in the distance with the bright office lights and blinking beacons of the skyline, the river shimmering a crisp reflection of the city. For a moment he was happy and relieved that nothing had happened -- that he had merely been caught up in that craze along with so many others.

No worries. He's got the rest of his life to live now. But what is there to live for? He has no job. He has no family. And he's sure to be ridiculed as soon as he shows his face in public again. The mistakes of powerful American icons do not go lightly punished.

All the thoughts of being ridiculed and chalked up as just another "crazy" proved too much. Dr. Zeng quickly formed a new plan -- a plan to unleash his precious apocalypse upon the world! Uniting his gangs and militias, he commanded them to reek havoc upon the city, moving onto the next once this one was destroyed. The anarchists and doomsday believers were happy to oblige, filling the streets with vandals and muggers. Glass, fire, metal and broken concrete littered the streets like an infection spreading through the city, choking off its police force until it made its way to the capital.

All the while, Dr. Zeng prepared a special international surprise -- a few hundred biochemically-enhanced missiles meant not only destroy many nations, but also to prompt retaliation against America. These apocalyptic actions would ensure Dr. Zeng to be the last one laughing.

As he scurried to organize his weapons, a lab assistant named Snapper realized that something had to be done about the madman's twisted plans. She called upon her friend Mace Daniels, a private investigator in the city, asking for her to help. Moving into action, Mace tracked down Hawk Manson, Ben "Smasher" Jackson, and would be joined by Alana McKendrick. Their mission: confront Dr. Zeng in his tower -- and save the world. ~ Shawn Sackenheim, All Game Guide
