The ten plays usually called history plays are King John,
Richard II, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2, Henry V, Henry VI
Part 1, Henry VI Part 2, Henry VI Part 3, Richard III and Henry
VIII.
Kings of England portrayed at one point or another in these
plays are John, Henry III, Richard II, Henry IV, Henry V, Henry VI,
Edward IV, Edward V, Henry VII and Henry VIII.
The following Kings and Queens of England appear in
Shakespeare's history plays: John, Henry III, Richard II, Henry IV,
Henry V, Henry VI, Edward IV, Edward V, Richard III, Henry VII,
Henry VIII, and Elizabeth. Whether they were made immortal by these
characterizations is another story. Henry III and Henry VII only
appear at the end of plays to take over from the previous and
recently deceased monarch. And Edward V is just a teenager and
Elizabeth a baby when they appear.
