The German High Seas Fleet's intent on challenging the British Grand Fleet's control of the seas. But when they did finally meet, the Grand Fleet couldn't re-locate the German Fleet to fight and the German Fleet ran as fast as it could back into it's home port. The battleships never did decisively engage. Battlecruisers did all of the major fighting, both sides claimed victory, for all of the big show (in numbers present) that presented itself that day in October of 1916, it was all a big let-down.
