vegetarian Hindu do eat mil and milk products because it doesn't
involve killing an animal.
some Hindu, however, argue that milk is animal product and do
not consume it. but that's only a small population.
non-vegetarian Hindu eat milk, meat, chicken, etc but not cow.
cow is religious.
Taking milk is considered pious and was made more popular by the
Lord Krishna during his avtar in Dwapar Yug. Mahatma Gandhi at one
time gave up milk and its products considering it to be not
strictly vegetarian but later changed his stance and agreed to
accepting milk (goat's milk) and its product like curd as
inescapable sin made available to mankind by the nature like
mothers milk, that's why cow is referred to as Mother Cow by the
Hindus. ( Cows milk is the closest to mother's milk).
