Neil Simon has kept Broadway bright for the last 40-plus years, and is one of the most prolific and successful playwrights around, but he's still not comfortable with all the hoopla (commotion) and fanfare his success has brought. And now there's more: Simon won this year's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

"Simon expressed uneasiness with the hoopla. 'Getting the award is great, but I'm not the kind of person who looks forward to these things. I'm that quiet guy in the back just writing — that sounds a little too poetic,' he told reporters. "
