Sports Science and Medicine: hyperpolarization

A change in the potential difference (PD) across a cell surface membrane so that the PD becomes more negative than the normal resting potential (e.g. if the resting potential is −70 mv, hyperpolarization may change it to -80 mV (see also after hyperpolarization).
