A genus of botflies whose larvae cause a creeping eruption in humans.

 
 

A genus of flies, whose larvae invade tissues causing damage to tissue, and to the skin as they emerge through it. Members of the family Oestridae.

  • H. actaeon — a central European fly.
  • H. aeratum — found in sheep and goats.
  • H. bovis, H. lineatum (syn. H. lineata) — hairy flies about 0.5 inch long, which parasitize cattle, bison and rarely horses. The larvae cause warbles under the skin and an emission puncture to mar the hide of the animal.
  • H. capreola — found in roe deer.
  • H. crossi — found in goats and sheep.
  • H. diana — found in red deer and roe deer.
  • H. moschiferi — found in musk deer.
  • H. silenus — attacks horses and goats.
