The Illinois General Assembly is the legislative branch of the state of Illinois and is comprised of the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate. The Illinois House of Representatives has 118 members elected from individual legislative districts. The Illinois Senate consists of 59 senators. The General Assembly's primary duties include passing bills into law, approving the state's budget, confirming state department and agency appointments, acting on federal constitutional amendments, and proposing state constitutional amendments.
