Imielin [iˈmjelin] is a small town in Silesia in southern Poland, near Katowice. Borders on the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union - metropolis with the population of 2 millions. Located in the Silesian Highlands.
It is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship since its formation in 1999, previously in Katowice Voivodeship, and before then, of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. Imielin is one of the towns of the 2,7 million conurbation - Katowice urban area and within a greater Silesian metropolitan area populated by about 5,294,000 people[1]. The population of the town is 8,010 (2008)[2].
The most remarkable in this city is Our Lady of Scapular Church and a small chapel where Napoleon prayed on his way to Russia during his invasion of Russia.
Massacre during Second World War
During the German Invasion of Poland in 1939, German soldiers mass murdered 28 Poles on the night of 4 and 5 September. The victims included refugees, 3 women and one 5-year old child. [3].
