The TSOP is a series of infrared receiver which is capable of receiving infrared radiation modulated at 36kHz only. This can be advantageous in many situations such that stay radiation hardly affect the receiver/sensor. I should also tell you that the TSOP is a receiver, not an emitter. You can use any infrared emitter, and modulate the signal by providing an electric signal of 36kHz to the IRED or whatever you are using.
