Infrared communication is impaired by loss of a direct line of sight. This is caused by physical obstructions between the emitter and receiver.

The TSOP is a series of infrared receiver which is capable of receiving infrared radiation modulated at 36kHz only. This can be advantageous in many situations such that stay radiation hardly affect the receiver/sensor. I should also tell you that the TSOP is a receiver, not an emitter. You can use any infrared emitter, and modulate the signal by providing an electric signal of 36kHz to the IRED or whatever you are using.

TSOP1738 is Infrared IR Sensor Receiver used in IR receivers to get signals. This is because it is sensitive to 38 kHz.

IR= Infrared Receiver/emiter= a technology used for wireless connection, so there is no cable for it because it uses infrared light usually invisible to the naked eye like your tv remote controller(your emiter) when you change channels you do not see the beam shooting in to your tv(your tv have the IR or Infrared Receiver).
