Interference falls pretty much in line with the majority of Elliott Sharp and Carbon's work -- the interplay between Zeena Parkins' electric harp and Sharp's untraditional guitar voicings are backed by a driving, rhythmic pulse, with the entire mix dominated by the same scratchily processed quality that marked Amusia. The album also adds a good deal of free-jazzy saxophone skronks, which blend well with the general discordance and abrasion of the project; while it's doubtful that Sharp and Carbon need to spend a great number of albums advancing this sound (the album frequently seems to be retreading already covered ground), Interference pushes it along effectively. ~ Nitsuh Abebe, All Music Guide
Interference is a 1998 industrial album by Cubanate. In contrast to the band's previous releases, it incorporates drum and
bass rhythms instead of regular dance beats, and the lyrics are more introspective and personal than what characterizes
Cubanate's older material.
The UK version of the album features two previously unreleased tracks, "Pleasure Kick" and "Ordinary Joe", recorded in 1996;
accordingly, these tracks follow the more traditional Cubanate style.
