Internet Safety

Internet safety is a major concern especially for our children. In order to make sure your child is as safe a possible, be aware of exactly what they are doing online, as much as you can. If you have to, limit computer use to when you are around to see it. Read on for more tips.

If your child is a member of a social interaction site, such as Facebook, log on as their friend to check out what they are posting and talking about. Check to see that they are not communicating with people of questionable character. Make sure that they do not give out too much personal information. You don't want your address or telephone number on display to strangers. Keep the profile of your child set to private, so that it an only be viewed by close family and friends. Watch for pictures that they post, and make sure nothing of questionable material is ever put up.

Communication is definitely the key to internet safety. Your child must know that you are checking up on them because you love and care about their safety, and not just to be nosy! Be as honest with your children as possible. You don't want to go behind their back to find something out, such as talking to a friend. This only creates anger and mistrust. Instead, let them know that you will be asking questions or taking to others. Internet safety is everyone's concern, and young children to teenagers should always be monitored.
