Ballet in one act with choreography by Robbins, music by M. Gould, and design by Carl Kent. Premiered 1 June 1945 as part of Billy Rose's Concert Varieties review at Ziegfeld Theatre, New York, with Kriza, Reed, Kidd, and Robbins. This setting of Gould's American Concertette was Robbins's second ballet. It is a celebration of carefree youth, and its four movements are titled Free Play, Horseplay, Byplay, and Teamplay. It was quickly taken into the repertory of Ballet Theatre, with new designs by Oliver Smith, and it has been revived for New York City Ballet (1952), Joffrey Ballet (1972), Royal Danish Ballet (1977), and San Francisco Ballet (1990), among others.
